The World is Thin

Image
Nora's voice has been swimming around my head. "The world is thin," she says, and my head wanders. ... We kicked off our month of out-of-city adventures with our weekend trip to the magical Isle of Skye. Really, the Isle of Skye is among Scotland's most popular excursions for its picturesque (as you'll see) landscapes and stories that come alive in your imagination while you drive through its rolling hills. Kicking off the post with some beautiful shots from Day 1 and incorporating some Highland Folkloric tales that connect to sites from the end of our tour at the end. Make sure to check out my traveling bud's awesome video from this trip  here ! Loch Lomond: the largest loch in Great Britain Luss, Scotland: a village on west bank of Loch Lomond Loch Tulla, Scotland The Three Sisters, Glen Coe: these peaks form part of Bidean nam Bian Eilean Donan Castle: built in the 13th century and the film location of the subpar rom-com,  M...

The Bridging of T I M E

Prior to hitting the month mark between posts, in true (Laura) Sevilla fashion get ready for a series of catch ups on here. While I haven't posted anything yet, I've been working on two on-going posts I'm excited to share with you soon. (hint: yummy food + yoga) Anyways, this one's for the passing of time-- I'm one of four children, the wee one whose head snaps up whenever she hears her mother or brothers call out, "Yaya." Yet, time has a funny way of working--often making my childhood feel like that of an only child. Making up games in the backyard pond, going to the zoo with my pops, sneaking into movie theaters with my momma, my childhood best friend. Being the kid that hung out with the adults when my crazy cousins weren't there because that's what I knew. Yet, I don't feel cheated. Time having kept my siblings and I apart by our birth years and subsequent living of life has given more richness to the time we are together. Beto gettin...

A Warm (?) Welcoming

Day 1: 17 °  C and a light drizzle while we untangled ourselves and our luggage form the shuttle somewhere in the middle of Edinburgh. Music: Doves in the Wind off SZA's Ctrl album--" You can never trivialize..."  and Kendrick's part trailed me all day ... M ade it through the EDI airport by cracking jokes to score a short-term visa, apologizing repeatedly  for "being a mess", and brushing my teeth in the women's bathroom outside of baggage claim while Nora guarded our pile of baggage by an outlet to juice our phones enough to manage. Half an hour later we were lugging our suitcases off the double decker shuttle and gathering bearings we had not yet developed. Determined to navigate this city immediately, I looped Nora into lugging our five massive suitcases 1.3 miles south to our AirBnB--up the hilly, cobblestoned streets of this city. Above: Nora ready to lug these bags 1.3 miles up, down, and south to our place of rest for th...

Preface--because every story really starts with a story before that one came to be

[ ed -n -br uh ] --or at least that's what Google said to me when I clicked the little microphone symbol next to the name of my study abroad (living?) destination. Up until a couple of months ago, I didn't know of this city's existence, much less would I have trusted myself to point it out on a map. After an almost-cinematic and somewhat-cliche proposal to study abroad together, Nora and I had settled on Edinburgh as our destination of travel. I've included some of our reasoning for our shared amusement: Edinburgh... Falls within English-speaking territory. -Nora Green. - Laura "Is a lovely place to travel", "OMG--you have to go there", "is the best place in the world", "go to St. Andrew's, they have great golfing there", "Where is that again?" and my favorite, "it's pronounced ehd-in-brough not EE-din-burg "--compilation of quotes and reactions to our choice of city from which to kick off the rid...
